Apple iPad finally on sale now

TGIF friday

TGIF! Reviews are done. Reports are checked off. The rumor is that tomorrow may actually be Saterday.

But most importantly the Apple iPad is available for order.

It will yet to be determined if the iPad is yet another device that creeps it’s way into daily life of the everyday people or if it’s size leaves it only to the techno collector. The usage by the rather finicky masses is better determined by the “mom” test. If my mother gets one (which by the way is more a statement of generation, and propensity to not like that which is electronic, not of age) and finds everyday uses for it, then it may pass. Non-adoption by the many, states that it is only a techy-toy for those who are electronically inclined. Mass use not only makes for an interesting cultural stamp, but adds another layer of bane to family technical support. But the world will survive I’d only to know that it just makes for a better Friday … Apple Computer

Adventures in vocabulary and the truth about coconutiness

Written by hoisumguo on February 28th, 2010

haupia trifle

So I think to my self, ‘trifle‘. It seems like the word ‘trifle‘ is more of an adjective or a verb from what I remember. But apparently it’s a ’something’, and a pretty appetizing sounding ’something’ at that. In my daily search for different haupia recipes, I came across an interesting recipe for haupia trifle. Now at first I thought this to be just a cute name for the recipe. But in looking the word up in wikipedia (because wikipedia is the default definition of all that is real), yielded an actual primary hit. Trifle is actually a desert of some sort. “A trifle is a dessert dish made from thick (or often solidified) custard, fruit, sponge cake, fruit juice or, more recently, gelatin, and whipped cream. These ingredients are usually arranged in layers with fruit and sponge on the bottom, and custard and cream on top”. I now have kml to thank for improving my vocabulary, and introducing yet another wonderful recipe for haupia. If someone ends up trying this recipie, please post back and and let me know what you thought of it. Otherwise enjoy the jump of true coconutiness – by Coconut girl (kml)

Debt of Humor

Written by hoisumguo on February 26th, 2010

The Intro:

For every word a price must be paid or benefit gained. Normally this is thought of a as a political or commercial theorum. But if you ponder deeply enough into the eyes of a very old and ornery field mouse, it will eventually bite you square on the nose. The same is to be said for humor or other types of general verbal spewing. It all cannot be just pixels or generics. Something or someone, somewhere must pay for those really awful and intestinally challengingly unfunny jokes that are printed ( as some may comment often drone on in these pages ). Everyone knows those office moments where someone tells the ultimate in untimely and unfunny conversationally injected jokes that is so beyond innappriate, not funny or inversly the absolutly the worst possibly pun you’ve ever heard. Payment has to be had. Karmic humor must exist….

The Pygmy:

Somewhere out there, on an undiscovered land or area, there are probably a small nation of pygmies that exist that unknowingly suffer from all the ills of the rest of humanity. This is where all of karmic humor must rest. A small insignificant bad joke may kill a single pygmy. A gut wrenchingly bad pun, a village. To the poor pygmies, its a sort of random event of unexplanable bad fortune.

The Scenario:

Bob walks in to Marks’ office; “I got a question, Mark,…”, Mark quickly replies, “I have an exclamation mark, but its sorta the same, just more straight and less squiggly at the top…..”

The Visual:

*somewhere far away in pygmy land*

*small boar hunting group of pygmies suddenly fall over dead*

The End:

Ibo? Ubo? We all scream for Yubo!

Written by hoisumguo on February 23rd, 2010

We all get those emails about friends or co-workers starting up new businesses, but very seldom truthfully is it all that interesting. It could be a business to business type setup which isn’t that appealing at the consumer level, or it could just be something that isn’t really all that great. Fortunately there are those seldom seen occasions where an actual product emerges, and doesn’t hold merit only due to personal familiarity. First of all Kudos to Cyndi and her family for the bravery to put forth such a novel and creative idea, and working so hard to bring it all the way to market. Yubo is a great idea, and everything from the live presentation and spot on examples (who doesn’t have a kid who leaves stuff in the lunchbox over the weekend?) to a colorful and professional website. It’s always amazing and refreshing to see innovation at work, and hopefully we’ll also get to see it’s success. Congratulations Cyndi and all the success to you and your great new product! Puppy twitter really?

Written by hoisumguo on February 15th, 2010

Innovation is the keystone of the valley, yet sometimes I wonder what exactly is going on in the ‘innovation’ sessions at some places. Twitter is a phenomenon that allows people to post idle, random or newsworthy thoughts as if broadcasting on the text version of public radio. So why should our best friends be left out? Truthfully I really am not sure I’d want to know what our family pet was thinking, but to some I could see the humor in following a pet tweeting at home whilst one is away at work. If you’ve got the $30 to burn, and really want to SQUIRREL!!!! ehem…. peep in on the family pet, maybe this is the wave of the future. Of course I’m sure the cats will get jealous and hack in nasty comments, or slight the poor cockatoo next door… but then maybe it really will be for the birds. At least for the birds who can’t talk.  Read the full article on Puppy Twitter after the jump … CNN on Puppy Twitter

New mobile blog – iMobileblog

With new releases and progress in the netbook market and iPads (definitely not a name endorsed by the vast majority of women that I’ve talked to) of the world, mobile tech will continue to push the bounds of who and what we all determine is the definition of the word ‘friend’

Chocolate Haupia Ice Cream Pie with Oreo Cookie Crust

Written by hoisumguo on August 28th, 2009

I’ve never been to the Alan Wong’s – Pineapple Room, but now will put it on the the ‘to try’ list next visit to the islands. A great pictorial review given at Tastyisland.net , although not an actual spectacular rating of the restaurant itself, the haupia ice cream pie looks desertalicious. Chocolate, haupia, with oreo cookies? What else could one want in such a dinner closer.

Although not exactly the match, there is a recipe from Chef Eric Arborgast posted at the roselani site as well.

Recipe: Haupia Ice Cream Pie

Summary: Haupia Ice Cream Pie

Ingredients

  • 2 cups graham cracker crumbs 1/4 cup macadamia nuts, chopped fine 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted 1/2 gallon Roselani™ Haupia Ice Cream 3 fresh mangoes, sliced 1/2 cup mango jelly 2 Tablespoons water

Instructions

  1. Method for the crust: Preheat oven to 350º. Combine the graham cracker crumbs, macadamia nuts and butter. Mix until well incorporated (Note: the mixture should be slightly moist.) Pat the mixture into the bottom of a 12” pie pan – it should be about 1/8” thick. Bake for seven minutes. Remove from heat and let cool. Method for the pie: Put the ice cream into the refrigerator and temper for ten minutes. Lightly press the ice cream into the COOLED, baked crust. Smooth out the top with a spatula dipped in warm water. Place the pie in the freezer for 1/2 hour. When you remove the pie from the freezer, cover the top with mango slices. Combine the mango jelly and water and heat in the microwave for 45 seconds to make a “mango syrup.” Brush the top of the pie with the syrup. Let set in the freezer for at least two hours before serving. To remove the pie from the pan you can either carefully dip the pan into hot water for about 30 seconds or carefully heat the outside of the pan with a kitchen propane torch. Use a hot knife to cut the pie into desired servings.

Cooking time (duration): 47

Meal type: dessert

Imports and Exports

Written by hoisumguo on August 21st, 2009

When often awoke to the thought of why  it is that the wild aboriginal poultry did invade to a german nation to export all the worlds meat products, one does pause for yet a second. Then another second does pass as the idea of taking said spoils from the WAP and importing them to a yet second source of distribution. Maybe this could be another meat stricten country, such as Ohio. Although I completely comprehend that Ohio is a state within the United States of America, it is not incomprehensible that it is only such because they have not fully realized the potential of becoming a fully developed meat fullfulled country and determined that revolution is necessary to obtain such a goal. Maybe the import of WAP enabled meat spoils could incite this sort of revoultion. It could be a Ohio WAP revolution of epic meat proportions! Although, I believe they do have localize meat of some sort in Ohio, this resistance could be subdued. The number nearby state conversions could also be quite profitable. Possible convsions could spread to contain all 50 state/countries to form 50 independant meat countries!

This leads me to believe that a small export of meat from a german town could lead to widespread importation and profitability of the WAP funding coffers. Either that or I really should just not wake up this early in the morning.

I think I vote for the later…..
